Face identification is the main feature here, so let’s start with that. The BionicMind machine-learning AI from Eufy recognizes and flags faces, which you may tag in the app. When a face is recognized, the name appears in the alert on your phone; when a face is not recognized, it states that a stranger has been found.

We were thrilled to test out Eufy Camera 3, the company’s first 4K outdoor security camera. Given that the Arlo Ultra 2 is the only other type we are aware of, wireless security cameras with 4K resolution are still somewhat of a unicorn. (There are numerous wired 4K cameras, but they want an NVR.)
Eufy’s video quality has received praise for its 2K models, and we are pleased to say that it is just as excellent in 4K.
As long as they aren’t moving too much, daytime footage is crisp and lends itself well to zooming in for a closer look at a visitor’s face or a neighborhood cat. Nevertheless, this is Eufy’s greatest video quality to date.
In particular when employing infrared night vision, the video quality captured throughout the night is excellent. Up to 20 feet distant from the camera, you can clearly see details and distinguish characteristics on stationary objects. Around 10 feet or less, the camera’s infrared LEDs showed their best performance.

Set Eufy 3 Camera and Forget
The setup of the equipment was quick and simple. The box has all the things you need. The 16 GB of storage on the HomeBase 3 hub can hold about three months’ worth of video content. It predicts that the 1-TB hard disk Eufy provided will hold 15 years’ worth of clips for the two-camera setup, so I installed it.
Unfortunately, continuous recording is not an option, but you can set it up to capture 120-second clips with little pauses in between.
The cameras don’t need to be recharged again once you mount them, but you must plug them in and let them a few hours to fully charge. According to Eufy, the embedded solar panels only need a few hours of sunlight each day to recharge the cameras.
We’ll see how they fare in the harsh winter, but up until the end of October, both of my cameras were at full power. Solar charging is an interesting option and takes the pressure off.
The Homebase 3 must be connected to your router via an Ethernet connection because the cameras record to it. The Homebase 3 will eventually support Wi-Fi connections, like previous hubs did, although at the moment, cable connections are required.
On your router, you will want an extra Ethernet port. Unfortunately, not all of the current Eufy cameras and gadgets are compatible with the new hub (see the list below for scheduled compatibility estimations). I would wait to purchase this system if Wi-Fi connectivity for the hub or backward compatibility are vital to you.
The live stream loads a little bit quicker on the Eufy Camera 3 compared to earlier Eufy security cameras, albeit this could be because of the upgraded Homebase 3. I had good luck with the Android and iOS apps, and they were simple to use.
The only recurring issue I encountered was with the inability to see how many new unwatched films were listed beneath each camera, although alerts were delivered as expected.
Both Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa are supported, and it appears to be much improved. The live broadcast loaded on my Nest Hub in about five seconds.

Without high-speed internet (over 100 Mbps), 4K streaming and video playback may be difficult, and the absence of continuous recording or full backward compatibility with earlier Eufy devices is frustrating.
Our top outdoor security cameras right now are from Arlo, and if you don’t mind using the cloud and paying a monthly fee, they are a little bit quicker to react to motion and provide richer notifications.

Field of view
The Eufy Camera 3 has a conventional 135° field of view, just like the Nest Cam and Ring Stick Up Cam. The fact that it captures a lot of activity in your yard leads us to recommend this as the minimum view for an outdoor security camera.
However, compared to cameras with ultrawide fields of view—160 degrees or more—found on the Arlo Pro 4 and Arlo Ultra 2, you’ll need more cameras to have complete video coverage.
Since you’re aiming the camera at entrances and susceptible locations on your property, such as storage sheds, side yards, and play areas, you really don’t need full video coverage.
Frame Rate
The framerate of the Eufy Camera 3 is just 15 frames per second (fps), which is the same as the framerate of Ring security cameras.
While this is excellent for maximizing storage and streaming speeds, motion won’t appear as smoothly as it would with Arlo and Nest’s higher framerates. However, it suffices for routine yard video surveillance.
Viewing Of A Live Feed
Although Eufy’s video looks good, when viewing a live feed of the camera, there is some distortion and pixelation. The majority of this is a result of our setting for the app to adjust streaming quality dependent on network speed.
The outdoor camera wouldn’t always stream in 4K, even with a fast network connection. A live video or photograph saved manually in the app always came out in 1080p.
